Japan Airlines and Indigo declared a codeshare agreement not now but earlier this year. They shared that they will officially begin the partnership in December. No doubt they are going to have the beneficial part with this partnership, especially the Japan airlines, which will have the permit to take many routes served by Indigo from Delhi and Bengaluru.
From December 16, Japan Airlines and India's largest airline, IndiGo, will start their codeshare alliance, which will help them employ each other's vast networks. Even though IndiGo does not have any flights to Japan, it will be able to sell flight tickets to several routes and destinations that are operated by Japan Airlines, operate daily services between cities like Tokyo (Haneda) and Delhi, and also the five times weekly services between the Tokyo (Narita) and Bengaluru. This will be a piece of good news for the passengers who love to travel and explore places.
In return for this, Japan Airlines will be able to offer its customers a lot more routes within India, and this is because of IndiGo's vast domestic connections, which are out of Delhi and Bengaluru, which are known to be the biggest metro cities in the country. This deal of codeshare will also help the business, trade, and tourism-affiliated travel between India and Japan. It will also allow the passengers of both airlines to explore some of the most culturally thriving destinations in India and Japan, known for their history and amazing ventures, nightlife, and significant landmarks. As it is the time when both countries are strategically working together, this codeshare will count toward strengthening the bilateral bonds between these two countries.
As Ross Leggett, Managing Executive Officer and Senior Vice President of Route Marketing at Japan Airlines, said, "This partnership will enable the travelers between Japan and India to book their flights on a single ticket and enjoy the exceptional facilities of both IndiGo and Japan Airlines. India has witnessed remarkable economic development in recent years, leading to a marked growth in air travel demand between India and Japan."
Japan Airlines customers traveling into India will get entrance to the 18 destinations in the country, which is all because of the extended network of Indigo. IndiGo commands over 60% of India's market share; its primary hub is Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport; other than this, its other important hub is Bengaluru. Out of Delhi, now Japan Airlines' passengers can book the IndiGo flight on a single ticket to Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Amritsar, Kolkata, Kochi, Goa, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Chennai, Pune, Leh, Thiruvananthapuram, and Varanasi.
From Bengaluru, the routes contain Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, Kochi, Goa, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Chennai, Pune, Coimbatore, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Thiruvananthapuram, Trichy, and Varanasi.
IndiGo has grown its codeshare partnerships with airlines over the past few years. One of the most grown deals is with Turkish Airlines, which covers several popular United States and European destinations. Other than this, British Airways is also on the list. It partnered with the Indian low-cost carrier and recently expanded it to about 18 destinations across the country, including Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, and Hyderabad.
IndiGo's partnership list includes one more name: the Qantas airline from Australia. It also enjoys a Codeshare deal with IndiGo's services to cities like Delhi and Mumbai.
Earlier this year, IndiGo also signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the codeshare partnership with the Malaysia Alliance.
No doubt, this alliance of IndiGo and Japan Airlines is going to be beneficial not only for the airlines but also for the passengers as more routes will be opened for them to travel and experience the new culture.
