What is the Korean Air baggage fees and policy?

Traveling requires a lot of preparation, and learning about the baggage fees and policies, including air travel, is a must. When people plan to travel to South Korea or nearby places, Korean Air may be their first choice, and there may be several reasons behind this. Domestic Checked baggage policy

  • As per the baggage policy, you can carry up to 30 kg on domestic routes.
  • Korean Air only accepts checked luggage if it is within 62 in or 158 cm, which is the total sum of the dimensions, including the handles and wheels.
  • You will be allowed up to 20 kg for free if you have purchased an economy fare.
  • Prestige fares allow you to take up to 30 kg for free.
  • There is no limit on how many bags you want to carry as long as they are under the defined limit. 

International Checked baggage policy.

Except for the route of Americas-Brazil

  • The baggage allowance for Economy class (Saver or without saver) is one bag, with a maximum weight of 23 kg allowed for free.
  • Prestige Class travelers can carry two bags of up to 32 kg or less weight for free.
  • First-class Korean air travelers can easily and freely carry three bags of 32 kg or less each. 

Flights from/to the Americas (except Brazil)

  • Economy Saver fare passengers can carry one bag of 23 kg, but the rest of the economy class passengers can take two such bags.
  • Prestige and First Class can carry up to 32 kg of weight, but First Class can bring three bags, whereas Prestige can only take two.

Flights from/to Brazil

  • All fares (Economy Saver, Economy Class, and Prestige) allow passengers to carry up to two bags with a weight limit of 32 kg.
  • First-class ticket travelers can take three bags with a 32 kg limit. 

Korean Air Carry on Baggage guidelines.

  • As per the guidelines, your bag should be under 115 cm, and it will be counted for all dimensions, including the handles, pockets, etc.
  • For the Prestige and First Class, the allowed limit is 18 kg, and one can carry up to 2 pieces of bag.
  • For the Economy Class, the allowed limit is 10 Kg with one piece of bag and a small handbag for personal items. 
  • Ensure the cabin luggage can go into the overhead bin easily.

Baggage policy for infants and children.

  • You can carry extra luggage if your ticket includes an infant or child.
  • The baggage allowances for child travelers will be the same as those for adults. Some extras, such as one foldable stroller and a car seat, can be added.
  • For Infants, if the flight is traveling on the domestic route, no extra baggage is allowed, plus one foldable stroller and car seat can be added.
  • An additional 10 kg can be added for infants traveling on international routes, and the total linear size should not be more than 45 inches. The car seats and Foldable strollers are also complementary. 

Korean Air Baggage Fees Guidelines 

In some situations, the allowed limit may feel less to carry stuff. Thus, Korean Air allowed their passenger to carry extra baggage by paying additional fees.

  • There will be a cost of $2/kg on domestic routes. 
  • A flight on an international route may charge more depending on the baggage size and weight category.
  • No charge if baggage is found to be within the limit.
  • According to the class, there is no baggage fee for the allowed limit, which is up to three.
  • The next additional checked bag may cost you up to $150 or less, depending on factors.
  • Baggage fees vary depending on ticket purchase time, service class, membership, size and weight, flight route, etc.

Here are Korean Airlines baggage guidelines that every traveler must follow. Please read the policy and find out what baggage allowance you will get if you purchase any of their fares.

  • Korean Air has provided a free baggage allowance for all its travelers who have purchased tickets for domestic and international travel. 
  • Some countries may have prohibited the carriage of certain items that are outside the weight criteria of 32 kg or 70 lb and 62 in or 158 cm in total size for a single piece.
  • If the itinerary includes any airline change, then the baggage regulations may be applied according to the codeshare agreement of the partnered airline. 
  • In some cases, adding baggage allowance may not be allowed if more than one ticket holder is involved.
